Scheduled forklift servicing

Your forklift’s handbook sets the service interval. For many forklifts it’s every 200–250 hours of use, depending on the work and site conditions. Machines that don’t get used much should still have a safety check every 3–6 months.

A regular service picks up wear early, like a weeping hydraulic hose, a stretched lift chain or soft brakes, before it damages other parts or becomes a safety issue. It also builds a service record, which matters when you sell or trade the machine.

A typical service looks at:

  • engine oil, filters and fluid levels (gas and petrol forklifts)
  • hydraulics: hoses, cylinders and leaks
  • mast, lift chains and forks
  • brakes, steering and tyres
  • lights, horn, seatbelt and warning devices
  • battery, charger and leads (electric forklifts)

Breakdown repairs

Forklift stopped, won’t lift or showing a fault code? Call 1300 326 654 and tell us:

  • the make, model and hours on the meter
  • what it’s doing, plus any fault code on the display
  • where the forklift is and who to ask for on site

We’ll try to diagnose it over the phone first. Sometimes that’s enough to get you going again. If it needs a technician, we quote before we come out, then fix it on your site.

If a forklift isn’t safe to use, tag it out of service and park it out of the way until we’ve seen it.

Electric and LPG forklifts

LPG (gas) and petrol forklifts

Common faults are hard starting, rough running or stalling, overheating and smoke from the exhaust. If you smell gas around the cylinder or engine, stop using the forklift, turn the cylinder valve off and call us.

Electric forklifts

Electric forklifts have fewer moving parts but still need regular servicing. Watch for slow travel or lifting on a full charge, fault codes on the display, and contactors or controllers playing up.

Forklift batteries and chargers

A battery that won’t last a shift, a charger that won’t finish a cycle, or damaged leads and plugs are worth a call. Tell us the battery and charger details and we’ll talk you through the options and quote before we come out.

Forklift safety inspections

A safety inspection checks the parts that keep operators and people nearby safe: brakes, steering, mast and chains, forks, tyres, seatbelt, horn, lights and warning devices. It’s worth booking for a machine that hasn’t been used for a while, before a busy period, or when you’ve bought a used forklift. Your operators should still do a pre-start check every shift.

Toyota is what we know best

We mainly repair Toyota forklifts, the same brand we mainly sell. Running another make? Our service special covers gas, petrol and electric forklifts up to 3 tonnes. For repairs, call and ask; we’ll tell you straight whether we can help.

Keep working while yours is fixed

If a repair will take a while, hire a forklift from $30/day + GST. Servicing and breakdown cover are included for the length of the hire. If the repair costs more than the machine is worth, see our forklifts for sale: used forklifts, mainly Toyota, with up to a 3-year warranty.
