LPG Forklift Hire Melbourne

Toyota LPG (gas) forklifts, 1.8 to 3 tonne, on hire anywhere in Melbourne from $30/day + GST. Gas forklifts are the main part of our hire fleet: powerful all-rounders for yards, loading docks, truck loading and sites where the forklift works inside and outside through the day. Servicing and breakdown cover are included for the whole hire, and you can hire for a week, a season or years. Call 1300 326 654 or send an enquiry.

Gas forklift hire from a Melbourne family business

Damoli Forklift Services is a family owned and operated Melbourne business, hiring forklifts since 2009. Our hire fleet is 150+ forklifts, mainly Toyota: LPG (gas) forklifts for yards, docks and trucks, plus electric forklifts for indoor work. We also hire electric reach trucks and scissor lifts. LPG forklift hire, gas forklift hire and gas forklift rental are the same thing here: you get the machine, we look after it.

When you ring about gas forklift hire in Melbourne, you deal with the people who own and look after the machines, not a national call centre. Tell us what you’re lifting, how high it needs to go and where it will work, and we’ll match the machine and quote delivery before you book. For every hire option in one place, see our forklift hire Melbourne page.

When a gas forklift suits your site

Gas and electric forklifts lift the same loads. The right choice depends on where the forklift works, how many hours a day it runs, and how you’ll keep it fuelled or charged. LPG is usually the better fit when the work is mostly outdoors, on rough ground, or runs long shifts with little downtime.

  • Yards and outdoor work. LPG forklifts handle uneven surfaces and outdoor conditions better than most electric models. In most cases they can be used in wet weather with extra care.
  • Loading trucks and docks. A gas forklift can unload a truck in the yard and then drive into the shed, which is what most Melbourne warehouses, factories and trade yards do every day.
  • Long or back-to-back shifts. A cylinder swap takes a few minutes, so the forklift is out of action for a few minutes, not a few hours. With a spare cylinder on hand, a gas forklift can keep working through a long day.
  • No charging bay to set up. There’s no waiting for a battery to charge and no need to find mains power for a charger.
  • Construction sites. Gas forklifts are powerful all-rounders for loading trucks, yards and construction sites, including heavier loads such as building materials, steel and timber.

When gas isn’t the right pick

LPG engines produce exhaust, including carbon monoxide. Indoors you need good ventilation, and gas forklifts aren’t suited to confined spaces. They’re also louder than electric forklifts. If your forklift will spend most of its day inside, in food storage or anywhere people work close by, an electric forklift is likely to suit you better.

  • Mostly indoors, food sites or quiet workplaces: see electric forklift hire Melbourne. Toyota electric forklifts in the same 1.8 to 3 tonne sizes, from $30/day + GST, with a charger included on every electric hire.
  • High racking and narrow aisles: see reach truck hire Melbourne. Reach trucks are built for tight aisles and high racking, with access above 10 m in confined spaces. Call 1300 326 654 for rates.

Some sites run an electric forklift inside and a gas forklift in the yard. If you can’t decide, hire one of each for a short period and see which suits your site. For the full side-by-side, read LPG vs electric forklifts.

LPG forklift sizes for hire

Our gas hire forklifts are Toyota, from 1.8 to 3 tonne. That range covers most warehouse, factory, transport yard and trade work. As a rough guide:

  • 1.8 tonne: compact and easy to manoeuvre. Suits light pallets, smaller warehouses, workshops and tighter spaces.
  • 2.5 tonne: the common general-purpose size. Suits standard pallets, container loading and most warehouse and yard work.
  • 3 tonne: for heavier pallets, building materials, steel and timber, and outdoor yards.

Match the capacity to your heaviest regular load, with some headroom, not your average load. Capacity drops as you lift higher and as the load sits further out on the forks, and attachments reduce usable capacity too. Bigger forklifts are also heavier, so check your floor and aisle widths. Tell us the heaviest load, how high it needs to go and where it will work, and we’ll match the capacity to the job. See our 2.5 tonne forklift hire and 3 tonne forklift hire pages for those sizes. On a longer hire, you have the option to change capacity if the work changes.

Container mast or standard mast?

A container mast has a lower closed height, so the forklift can drive in and out of shipping containers. If you unload containers, a container mast is usually what you need. A standard mast suits open warehouses and yards, and sometimes costs less to hire. Weekly hire of a late-model Toyota 1.8–2.5 tonne container mast forklift is $180–$250 + GST. Measure your highest racking beam or truck deck, and your lowest door or overhead clearance, before you call.

LPG forklift hire rates

  • Toyota LPG (gas) forklift, 1.8–3 tonne: from $30/day + GST.
  • Weekly hire, late-model Toyota 1.8–2.5 tonne container mast: $180–$250 + GST per week. A standard mast sometimes costs less.
  • Minimum hire: generally one week.
  • Local delivery: from around $180 + GST, depending on your suburb.
  • Longer hires: call 1300 326 654 for long-term rates.
  • Electric forklift, 1.8–3 tonne: from $30/day + GST.
  • Reach trucks and scissor lifts: call 1300 326 654 for rates.

All prices exclude GST. Delivery and pick-up are extra and quoted up front for your suburb. Delivery costs less the longer you hire. On hires over a month, ask us about reduced delivery. Hire now, pay later, with an account set up in under 5 minutes. For a fuller breakdown of what goes into a hire price, read what forklift hire costs.

Gas cylinders on a hire forklift

LPG forklifts run an engine on liquefied petroleum gas from a removable cylinder on the back of the machine. When the cylinder runs out, you swap it for a full one and keep working. A few things are worth knowing before the forklift arrives:

  • Forklift LPG cylinders can’t be filled at a service station pump. They’re swapped on an exchange basis through a gas supplier.
  • Spare cylinders need to be stored safely in a proper cage, outdoors.
  • If you run long shifts, plan to keep a spare cylinder on hand so the forklift isn’t waiting on gas.

Ask us about gas for your hire when you call 1300 326 654, and we’ll talk it through before you book.

Gas forklift safety on site

  • Ventilation. If the gas forklift drives into the shed, keep the area well ventilated. Gas forklifts aren’t suited to confined spaces.
  • If you smell gas. If you smell gas around the cylinder or engine, stop using the forklift, turn the cylinder valve off and call us.
  • Compliance plate. Every gas forklift should carry a compliance plate showing when the gas system was tested, and by whom.
  • Licensed operators only. Only licensed and qualified operators are legally allowed to operate a forklift in Australia. For a counterbalance forklift, that’s the LF licence. Read how to get a forklift licence in Australia.
  • Something not right? Servicing and breakdown cover are included for the whole hire. If the forklift is hard starting, running rough or showing a fault, park it and call us, and we’ll sort it.

What’s included on every gas forklift hire

  • Servicing and breakdown cover for the whole hire. If something goes wrong, call us and we’ll sort it.
  • A machine matched to the job, sized for your loads, lift height and site.
  • Hire now, pay later, with an account set up in under 5 minutes.
  • Delivery and pick-up are extra and quoted up front for your suburb, so there are no surprises.

Short-term and long-term gas forklift hire

Short-term hire covers the jobs that come and go: a container that’s just landed, a stocktake, peak season, a fit-out, or covering your own forklift while it’s off the road. Minimum hire is generally one week, and a late-model Toyota 1.8–2.5 tonne is $180–$250 + GST per week. See short term forklift hire Melbourne.

Long-term hire gives you a gas forklift on site without buying one. The machine stays ours to look after, you get a predictable cost, and you have the option to change capacity if the work changes. Most long-term hires for warehouses, factories and transport yards are a 1.8 to 3 tonne LPG Toyota. Long-term rates are quoted on enquiry. See long term forklift hire Melbourne.

Buying a gas forklift instead?

Gas forklifts make up most of our used stock, and most are Toyota. See our used LPG forklifts for sale in Melbourne, or all our used forklifts for sale in Melbourne, mainly Toyota, from $6,000 + GST, with up to a 3-year warranty. LPG forklift hire FAQs

Is forklift hire the same as forklift rental?

Yes. Hire and rental mean the same thing. You rent a gas (LPG) forklift from us for as long as you need it, generally with a one-week minimum, and servicing and breakdown cover are included. Call 1300 326 654 for a quote.

How much does LPG forklift hire cost in Melbourne?

Toyota LPG (gas) forklifts from 1.8 to 3 tonne start from $30/day + GST. Weekly hire of a late-model Toyota 1.8–2.5 tonne container mast forklift is $180–$250 + GST, and minimum hire is generally one week. Delivery is from around $180 + GST, depending on your suburb. For longer hires, call 1300 326 654 for long-term rates.

Is a gas or electric forklift better for my site?

Gas (LPG) usually suits yards, rough ground, wet weather, truck loading and long back-to-back shifts. Electric usually suits indoor work, warehouses, food handling and confined spaces, where noise and fumes matter. If you work both inside and out, ask us and we’ll help you choose.

Can I use a gas forklift indoors?

Yes, with good ventilation. LPG engines produce exhaust, including carbon monoxide, so gas forklifts aren’t suited to confined spaces. If the forklift will spend most of its day inside, an electric forklift is likely to suit you better.

What sizes of gas forklift can I hire?

Toyota LPG (gas) forklifts from 1.8 to 3 tonne, with container mast and standard mast options. Tell us your heaviest load and lift height and we’ll match the capacity and mast to the job.

Where do I get gas for a hire forklift?

Forklift LPG cylinders can’t be filled at a service station pump. They’re swapped on an exchange basis through a gas supplier, and spare cylinders need to be stored in a proper cage, outdoors. Ask us about gas for your hire when you call 1300 326 654.

What is the minimum hire period?

Minimum hire is generally one week. You can keep the forklift for as long as the work needs it, and longer hires get long-term rates.

Is servicing included on a gas forklift hire?

Yes. Servicing and breakdown cover are included for the length of the hire. If the machine needs attention, call us and we’ll sort it.

Do you deliver gas forklifts across Melbourne?

Yes. We deliver to the west from our Werribee yard, to the north from our Epping yard, and to the south-east, east and inner suburbs, such as Port Melbourne. Delivery is from around $180 + GST and depends on your suburb and how long you hire.
