Used gas forklifts from a Melbourne family business

Damoli Forklift Services is a family owned and operated Melbourne business, selling, hiring, servicing and repairing forklifts since 2009. Toyota is our specialty. Most of what we sell is Toyota, and most of what our service team works on is Toyota too, so we know these gas forklifts well and we can source parts for them.

When you ring about a used LPG forklift, you talk to the people who own the stock and service it. Tell us your heaviest load, the lift height you need and where the forklift will work, and we’ll suggest machines from current stock that fit.

Why most Melbourne businesses buy LPG

LPG forklifts are the all-rounders. They suit yards, loading docks, trucks and mixed indoor-outdoor work, which is what most Melbourne warehouses, factories and trade yards do every day.

  • Quick refuelling. Refuelling is a quick gas bottle swap, so there’s no waiting for a battery to charge and no charging bay to set up.
  • Full-shift work. With a spare cylinder on hand, a gas forklift can keep working through a long day.
  • Inside and out. A gas forklift can unload a truck in the yard and then drive into the shed. Because LPG forklifts produce exhaust, they need good ventilation if they spend a lot of time indoors.
  • Parts and service. The Toyota 32-8FG series is common in Melbourne, and it’s the forklift our technicians work on most.

If the forklift will work mostly indoors, in food storage or another enclosed space, an electric forklift may suit better because it has no exhaust at the point of use. For outdoor yards and heavier, continuous lifting, we also have diesel stock from time to time. Our guide to electric vs LPG forklifts goes through the trade-offs.

Toyota LPG models you’ll usually find in our stock

  • Toyota 32-8FG18 (1.8t). Compact and easy to manoeuvre. Suits light pallets, smaller warehouses, workshops and tighter spaces.
  • Toyota 32-8FG25 (2.5t). The most common general-purpose size. Suits standard pallets, container loading and most warehouse and yard work. This is the model we usually have the most of.
  • Toyota 32-8FG30 (3.0t). For heavier pallets, building materials, steel and timber, and outdoor yards.
  • Toyota 32-8FGJ35 (3.5t). A 3.5t version for heavier loads.
  • Older Toyota 7FG models (1.5t and 1.8t). Older Toyotas can still be a sound buy. A well-maintained 7FG18 with a known service history is often a sensible choice for a small business that needs a reliable forklift for light, regular work.

Stock changes often. Forklifts come in and go out each week, so the stock list is the place to check what’s available right now.

Used LPG forklift prices in Melbourne

These ranges come from the gas forklifts listed on our site in October 2026. All prices are + GST and vary with year, hours, mast and attachments. Check current stock for today’s prices.

  • 1.5t to 1.8t (older Toyota 7FG): from $6,600 inc GST
  • 1.8t (Toyota 32-8FG18): about $10,000 to $14,850 inc GST
  • 2.5t (Toyota 32-8FG25): about $10,000 to $19,800 inc GST
  • 3.0t to 3.5t (Toyota 32-8FG30 and 32-8FGJ35): about $11,000 to $19,800 inc GST

A higher price usually reflects a newer year, lower hours, a container mast or attachments such as a clamp or fork positioner. A lower price usually means an older machine or higher hours. Neither is automatically the better buy. It depends on how hard the forklift will work. Where a listing says “call for price”, ring us and we’ll give you the figure and the current hours.

Choosing the right capacity

Capacity is the most important number on a forklift. Match the rated capacity to your heaviest regular load, with some headroom, and check it at your load centre and lift height. Capacity drops as you lift higher, and attachments such as clamps and fork positioners reduce usable capacity too. Check the data plate on the forklift, or ask us to check it for your load.

As a rough guide, a 1.8t gas forklift suits light pallets and tighter spaces, a 2.5t suits standard pallets and most general work, and a 3t to 3.5t suits heavier pallets and outdoor yards. Bigger forklifts are also heavier, so check your floor and aisle widths before you choose one.

Container mast or standard mast?

A container mast has a lower closed height, so the forklift can drive in and out of shipping containers. If you unload containers, a container mast is usually what you need. A standard mast suits open warehouses and yards.

Measure the height of your highest racking beam and allow clearance above it, then check the forklift’s lift height against that figure. Our listings show the mast type and lift height on every gas forklift, from about 3.0m to 4.7m on current LPG stock.

Attachments on used gas forklifts

Many of our used LPG forklifts come with attachments already fitted, and each listing shows what’s on the machine.

  • Fork positioner. Moves the forks in and out from the seat, so the operator can adjust for different pallet widths without getting off.
  • Clamp. Grips loads that aren’t on pallets, such as cartons, bales or whitegoods. A clamp is a specialist attachment, so make sure it suits your load before you buy.

Attachments add weight at the front of the forklift and reduce its usable capacity. Check the capacity with the attachment fitted, not just the base rating.

Hours on a used LPG forklift

Forklift hours are like kilometres on a car. They tell you how much the forklift has worked, but not how well it has been looked after. On our gas listings you’ll see Toyotas with a few thousand hours and Toyotas with over 20,000 hours, and both can be the right machine for the right job.

For light, occasional work, an older or higher-hour gas forklift with a good service history can be good value. For a forklift that will run full shifts every day, a newer, lower-hour machine is usually worth the extra cost. The service history, the condition of the mast, chains, hydraulics and tyres, and the warranty on offer all matter as much as the hour meter.

What to check on a used gas forklift

Whoever you buy from, these are worth checking. We’re happy to go through each one with you on any forklift in our yard.

  • Engine and gas system. Common faults on LPG forklifts are hard starting, rough running or stalling, overheating and smoke from the exhaust. Start it from cold if you can. If you smell gas around the cylinder or engine, don’t use the forklift.
  • Gas cylinder. Ask whether a cylinder comes with the forklift and how you’ll get refills.
  • Hours and service history. Ask for the hour meter reading and what has been serviced or replaced.
  • Hydraulics. Look for leaks around hoses, cylinders and fittings.
  • Mast, lift chains and forks. Check for mast play, stretched chains, and cracked or bent forks.
  • Brakes, steering and tyres. Drive it if you can. Check the brakes, steering response and tyre wear.
  • Safety devices. Lights, horn, seatbelt and warning devices should all work.
  • Who stands behind it. A warranty and a local service team matter more than a low sticker price.

Our forklift service special is $345 + GST for gas, petrol and electric forklifts up to 3t, including travel, labour, parts and consumables. A regular service picks up wear early and builds a service record, which matters when you later sell or trade the machine. See forklift service and repair for details.

Buy or hire a gas forklift?

If you need a forklift every day for years, buying usually makes sense. If you need one for a short job, a peak period or while you work out what you need, hire lets you use a forklift without the upfront cost. We hire Toyota LPG (gas) forklifts from 1.8 to 3 tonne from $30/day + GST. See forklift hire Melbourne or short-term forklift hire. We do both, so we’ll tell you honestly which one fits.
