Used electric forklifts from a Melbourne family business
Damoli Forklift Services is a family owned and operated Melbourne business, selling, hiring, servicing and repairing forklifts since 2009. Toyota is our specialty. Most of our electric stock is Toyota 7FBE and 8FBE counterbalance forklifts, and we also carry electric reach trucks for warehouse racking, including Toyota, Raymond and BT units from time to time.
When you ring about a used electric forklift, you talk to the people who own the stock and service it. Tell us your heaviest load, the lift height you need, your aisle widths and how many hours a day the forklift will run, and we’ll suggest machines from current stock that fit.

Used electric forklift prices in Melbourne
On the listings above, our used Toyota electric counterbalance forklifts run from $10,000 to $14,300 inc GST, and our priced electric reach trucks are $11,000 inc GST each. Prices vary with year, hours, mast, attachments and, on an electric forklift, the battery.
A higher price usually reflects a newer year, lower hours or a longer mast. A lower price usually means an older machine or higher hours. Neither is automatically the better buy. It depends on how hard the forklift will work and how many hours a day it has to run on one charge.
When a used electric forklift suits your site
Gas and electric forklifts lift the same loads. The right choice depends on where the forklift works, how many hours a day it runs, and how you’ll keep it fuelled or charged. Electric is usually the better fit when the work is mostly indoors, around stock or people, or where noise and fumes matter.
- Indoor warehouses and distribution centres. There are no exhaust fumes where the forklift is working, which is why electric forklifts are recommended in confined spaces.
- Food storage and handling. With no exhaust around the stock, electric forklifts suit food sites.
- Quiet workplaces. Electric forklifts make much less noise, which helps when people are working nearby.
- Clearer view behind. There’s no gas cylinder on the back, so the view behind the forklift is clearer when reversing in tight spaces.
- Less to look after. No engine oil, spark plugs or gas system, and no LPG cylinders to swap or store.
Electric is usually not the right pick for wet weather or rough outdoor ground, because most electric forklifts aren’t designed for those conditions. If your forklift spends the day moving between the shed and a gravel yard, see our used LPG forklifts for sale instead. Our guide to electric vs LPG forklifts goes through the trade-offs.
Electric counterbalance forklift or reach truck?
An electric counterbalance forklift looks and drives like a gas forklift, with the load carried on the forks out the front and the weight of the battery at the back balancing it. Our Toyota 7FBE and 8FBE models are four-wheel electric forklifts, usually 1.8t or 2.0t, and every one in our current stock has a container mast, so they can work in and out of shipping containers as well as in the warehouse. The Toyota 7FB25 is a 2.5t electric forklift for heavier indoor loads.
A reach truck is built for narrow aisles and high racking. The mast reaches forward to place and pick pallets, so a reach truck can work in aisles where a counterbalance forklift can’t turn. Our current reach trucks lift from 4.5m up to 8.2m. Reach trucks are indoor machines and need a smooth, level floor.
If you load trucks at the dock as well as working the racking, an electric counterbalance forklift is usually the more flexible choice. If your racking is high and your aisles are tight, a reach truck may do the job where a counterbalance forklift can’t.
The battery: the most important check on a used electric forklift
The battery is a large part of an electric forklift’s value, so on a used machine it deserves its own check.
- Age and condition. Ask how old the battery is and whether it holds a charge through a full shift.
- Charger and leads. Check whether the charger and leads come with the forklift, and that they suit the battery.
- Corrosion and damage. Look at the battery case and terminals for corrosion and the cables for damage.
- Watering. Lead-acid batteries need regular watering. A neglected battery is one of the most expensive things to replace on an electric forklift.
- Your shift pattern. Think about how many hours a day the forklift will run, and whether you’ll charge between shifts or overnight.
If you’re comparing two similar electric forklifts at a similar price, the one with the better battery is often the better value. We can tell you what we know about the battery on any electric forklift in our stock.
Charging at your site
Before an electric forklift arrives, plan where it will charge.
- Charging takes hours. A traditional lead-acid battery typically needs a full charge, plus time to cool down, between shifts. Plan for the forklift to go on charge at the end of the working day.
- Power supply. Chargers run off mains power, single or three phase depending on the size of the battery and charger. Check what power you have where the forklift will be charged.
- Ventilation. Lead-acid batteries give off gas while charging, so pick a charging spot with good airflow, away from where stock and people crowd in.
- More than one shift? If the forklift runs more than one shift a day, you may need a spare battery or a different set-up. Tell us your shift pattern when you call.
Capacity, mast and lift height
Capacity is the most important number on a forklift. Match the rated capacity to your heaviest regular load, with some headroom, and check it at your load centre and lift height. Capacity drops as you lift higher, and attachments such as fork positioners reduce usable capacity too. Check the data plate on the forklift, or ask us to check it for your load.
A container mast has a lower closed height, so the forklift can drive in and out of shipping containers. Measure the height of your highest racking beam and allow clearance above it, then check the forklift’s lift height against that figure. Our listings show capacity, mast type and lift height on every unit.
Hours on a used electric forklift
Forklift hours are like kilometres on a car. They tell you how much the forklift has worked, but not how well it has been looked after. Our current electric stock runs from about 1,000 hours to over 15,000 hours, and both ends can be the right machine for the right job. The service history, the battery, and the condition of the mast, chains, hydraulics and tyres all matter as much as the hour meter.
What else to check before you buy
- Hydraulics. Look for leaks around hoses, cylinders and fittings.
- Mast, lift chains and forks. Check for mast play, stretched chains, and cracked or bent forks.
- Brakes, steering and tyres. Drive it if you can. Check the brakes, steering response and tyre wear.
- Safety devices. Lights, horn, seatbelt and warning devices should all work.
- Who stands behind it. A warranty and a local service team matter more than a low sticker price.

Our forklift service special is $345 + GST (normally $420 + GST) for gas, petrol and electric forklifts up to 3t, including travel, labour, parts and consumables. A regular service picks up wear early and builds a service record, which matters when you later sell or trade the machine. See forklift service and repair for details.
Buy or hire an electric forklift?
If you need an electric forklift every day for years, buying usually makes sense. If you need one for a short job, a peak period or while you work out what you need, hire lets you use one without the upfront cost. We hire Toyota electric forklifts from 1.8 to 3 tonne from $30/day + GST, with a charger included and servicing and breakdown cover for the whole hire. See electric forklift hire Melbourne, short-term forklift hire or long-term forklift hire. We also hire electric reach trucks, and our main hire offer is Toyota gas forklifts from 1.8 to 3 tonne on forklift hire Melbourne. Our guide to forklift hire vs buying goes through the numbers. We do both, so we’ll tell you honestly which one fits.

Mainly Toyota. Our electric counterbalance forklifts are Toyota 7FBE, 8FBE and 7FB models, and our electric reach trucks include Toyota, Raymond and BT units.
Do your used electric forklifts come with a warranty?
Yes, up to a 3-year warranty. Ask us about the warranty on the forklift you’re interested in and we’ll confirm it before you buy.
Does the charger come with a used electric forklift?
Ask us about the specific unit. Check that the charger and leads come with the forklift and suit the battery, and tell us what power you have where it will be charged.
Can a used electric forklift work outdoors?
On dry, sealed surfaces for short runs, often yes. Most electric forklifts aren’t designed for wet weather or rough outdoor ground, so if the forklift spends much of its day in a yard, a gas forklift is likely to suit better.

Can I inspect an electric forklift before buying?
