Reach truck hire from a Melbourne family business
Damoli Forklift Services is a family owned and operated Melbourne business, hiring forklifts since 2009. Our hire fleet is 150+ forklifts, mainly Toyota: LPG (gas) forklifts for yards, docks and trucks, electric forklifts for indoor work, and electric reach trucks for racking and narrow aisles. We also hire scissor lifts. Reach truck hire and reach truck rental are the same thing here: you get the machine, we look after it.
When you ring about reach truck hire in Melbourne, you deal with the people who own and look after the machines, not a national call centre. Tell us your rack height, aisle width, the heaviest pallet you lift and how long you need it, and we’ll match the machine and quote delivery before you book.
What a reach truck does that a standard forklift can’t
A standard counterbalance forklift carries its load out in front and balances it with weight at the back. That makes it a strong all-rounder for docks, yards and trucks, but it needs room to turn. A reach truck works differently. The mast moves forward to pick up or place a pallet, then pulls back so the load sits inside the wheelbase while the truck travels. The result is a shorter machine that turns in a much tighter space.
That’s why reach trucks are the usual choice in warehouses with tall racking and narrow aisles. Narrower aisles mean more rows of racking in the same floor space, and a taller mast means more pallet positions in each bay. If your shed is running out of room, a reach truck can help you use the height you already have.
Reach trucks are electric, so there are no exhaust fumes where the truck is working and they run much more quietly than a gas forklift. That suits indoor warehouses, distribution centres and food sites where stock and people are close by.
When reach truck hire suits your site
- High racking. Reach trucks give access above 10 m in confined spaces, so you can store and pick from upper pallet positions.
- Narrow aisles. They turn in a tighter space than a counterbalance forklift, so they suit aisles that a standard forklift struggles with.
- Indoor work. Electric power means zero fumes at the point of use and less noise around staff.
- Peak season and stocktakes. Hire a reach truck while volumes are up, then hand it back when the rush is over.
- Covering your own machine. If your own reach truck is off the road, hire one while it’s fixed so picking doesn’t stop.
- Trying before you buy. Not sure a reach truck will work in your layout? Hire one and run it in your aisles first.
When a counterbalance forklift is the better pick
Reach trucks are made for smooth, level warehouse floors. They’re usually not the right choice for yards, gravel, ramps, wet weather or loading trucks from the ground. If your forklift spends its day moving between the shed and the yard, or unloading containers and trucks, a counterbalance forklift is likely to suit better.
We hire Toyota LPG (gas) forklifts from 1.8 to 3 tonne from $30/day + GST for yards, docks and trucks, and electric forklift hire in the same sizes for indoor work. Many sites run a reach truck in the racking and a counterbalance forklift at the dock. See all the options on our forklift hire Melbourne page.
What to tell us before you hire a reach truck
The right reach truck depends on your racking and floor, so a few measurements up front save a wasted delivery. Have these ready when you call:
- Highest beam height. How high is the highest pallet position the truck needs to reach?
- Aisle width. Measure between the racking (or the pallets sticking out of it) at the narrowest point.
- Heaviest load. The heaviest pallet you lift, and how high it has to go. A truck lifts less at full height than at ground level.
- Pallet size. Standard pallets, or anything longer or wider?
- Floor. Is the floor smooth and level, and are there any ramps, door heights or mezzanines along the route?
- Shifts. How many hours a day the truck will run, so we can talk through charging.
- Power for charging. What power you have where the truck will be charged.
- Hire length and address. How long you need it and where it’s going.
Not sure how to measure? Call 1300 326 654 and we’ll talk you through it.
Charging basics
Like any electric forklift, a reach truck is only as useful as its battery, so plan charging before it arrives.
- Charging takes hours. A traditional lead-acid battery typically needs a full charge, plus time to cool down, between shifts. Plan for the truck to go on charge at the end of the working day.
- More than one shift? Tell us your shift pattern when you call, so we can talk through what will keep the truck running.
- Charge in a well-ventilated area, away from where stock and people crowd in.

Short-term and long-term reach truck hire
Short-term hire covers the jobs that come and go: peak season, a stocktake, a warehouse move or fit-out, or covering your own reach truck while it’s off the road. Minimum hire is generally one week. See short term forklift hire Melbourne.
Long-term hire gives you a reach truck on site without buying one. The machine stays ours to look after, with servicing and breakdown cover included, and you get a predictable cost. Long-term rates are quoted on enquiry. See long term forklift hire Melbourne.
Would buying a used reach truck make more sense?
If you need a reach truck every day for years, owning one can work out better than hiring. We also sell used electric reach trucks, and our current stock has included BT, Raymond and Toyota reach trucks from 1.2 to 2.0 tonne, with lift heights from 4.5 m to 8.2 m, from $10,000 + GST. Stock changes, so check what’s in the yard today on our all forklifts for sale page, or see used forklifts for sale in Melbourne. Used forklifts come with up to a 3-year warranty. With any used electric machine, the battery’s age and condition makes a big difference to value, so ask us about it.

Operators and safety
In Victoria, anyone operating a forklift, including a reach truck, needs a High Risk Work Licence for forklifts. Reach truck controls and handling feel different from a counterbalance forklift, so make sure operators are familiar with the machine before they work at height. Keep aisles clear, check the load against the truck’s capacity at the height you’re lifting to, and report any damage or faults straight away. With servicing and breakdown cover included, if the truck needs attention, call us and we’ll sort it.

Servicing your own forklifts
If you run your own forklifts alongside a hire, we offer on-site forklift servicing and repairs. We service all makes and models, and we specialise in Toyota. Our service special is $345 + GST (normally $420 + GST), with travel, labour, parts and consumables included, for gas, petrol and electric forklifts up to 3t, anywhere in Melbourne. If your own machine is off the road, we can often get a hire forklift to you while yours is fixed.
Reach truck hire FAQs
How much does reach truck hire cost in Melbourne?
Reach truck hire is quoted to suit the job, because rack height, capacity and hire length all change the price. Call 1300 326 654 for rates. Minimum hire is generally one week, and delivery is from around $180 + GST, depending on your suburb.
What is the minimum hire period for a reach truck?
Minimum hire is generally one week, the same as our forklift hire. You can keep the reach truck as long as the work needs it, and longer hires get long-term rates.
How high can a reach truck lift?
Reach trucks are built for high racking, with access above 10 m in confined spaces. Tell us your highest beam height and heaviest pallet, and we’ll match a truck that reaches it safely.
What’s the difference between a reach truck and a forklift?
A reach truck’s mast moves forward to pick up a pallet, then pulls back so the load sits inside the wheelbase while it travels. That makes it shorter and better at turning in narrow aisles. A counterbalance forklift is the better all-rounder for yards, docks and trucks.
Can a reach truck be used outdoors?
Reach trucks are made for smooth, level warehouse floors, so they usually aren’t suited to yards, gravel, ramps or wet weather. For outdoor work, a Toyota LPG (gas) forklift is likely to suit better.
Do I need a licence to drive a reach truck?
Yes. In Victoria, operating a forklift, including a reach truck, needs a High Risk Work Licence for forklifts. Make sure operators are familiar with reach truck controls before they work at height.
Can I hire a reach truck long term?
Yes. Long-term hire puts a reach truck on site without buying one, with servicing and breakdown cover included for the whole hire. Long-term rates are quoted on enquiry, and you can ask about reduced delivery on hires over a month.
Is servicing included on a reach truck hire?
Yes. Servicing and breakdown cover are included for the length of the hire. If the machine needs attention, call us and we’ll sort it.
